The Cube holds Magic within. We you move the pcs some of the Bunnies also move with it. It is important to know which pc can entice which rabbit, before we put a spell on it.
The small white and yellow are controlled by the edge pieces. The messenger rabbits reside in the middle layer and hence are controlled by the edge pieces in the middle layer.

The Messenger bunnies run between lands in the middle of all. So they can be controlled using the edge pieces in the middle layer.
